Shadow Work & Conditioning Psychology: A Self-Reflection Exercise
This self-inquiry exercise invites you to explore the hidden landscape of your conditioning psychology—what shapes your beliefs, drives your projections, and triggers emotional reactions. It draws on three of the foundational tools of shadow work I teach in my practice: triggers, projection and the mirror.
Triggers & Projections in Real Time

Recently, I came across a social media post about the organisation "One Child One Planet."
What are your immediate thoughts?
What does it stir within you?
These first reactions—emotional surges, judgements, or agreement—are not random. They reveal projections rooted in our conditioning psychology: beliefs, narratives, and emotional responses formed by past experiences and cultural influences.
Where Do Our Judgements Come From?
Pause and ask yourself: where did that judgement come from?
Is it truly yours? Or is it inherited—passed down through family, media, education, or cultural programming?
Let’s deepen the inquiry.
Every organisation has an agenda. One Child One Planet is no different. But are they right or wrong? Are they expressing their sovereign truth—or threatening yours? Do you allow space for differing opinions, or do you try to silence them when they don’t align with your worldview?
Sovereignty vs. Conformity: Where Do You Stand?
This is where sovereignty and conformity intersect. Where do you sit along this spectrum?
Do you own your right to choose your beliefs—rooted in conscious awareness? Or do you unconsciously conform to collective narratives for safety, acceptance, or belonging?
Bringing It Closer to Home
Let’s bring it closer to home—into our relationships.
Can you allow others to express their truth, even if it challenges your beliefs? Or do you expect others to conform, bend, or silence themselves to maintain your comfort?
How often do we get swept into the drama of needing to be “right,” casting others as “wrong,” and wasting precious energy in cycles of judgement and control?
The Mirror of Shadow Work
This is the mirror of our shadow work. It’s not about who's right or wrong. It’s about understanding:
What gets triggered in you.
Where it originated.
And how to reclaim your power by responding from awareness, not reactivity.
This is how you start to break the unconscious loops of projection, polarity, and pain.
Your Invitation to Go Deeper
So today, I invite you to look inward. Not to find blame. But to find clarity.
To sit with your thoughts. To question their origin. To feel what is yours—and release what no longer serves.
Because true sovereignty begins when you are no longer ruled by inherited beliefs, but guided by the wisdom of your own soul.
With love,
Nicola x
